Undo & Redo
Homecrate keeps an edit history you can step back and forward through with the ↩ Undo and ↪ Redo buttons in the tab bar (just below the transport).
What Undo Covers

Redo re-applies anything you’ve undone.
Undo a Recording — the Fast Re-take
This is the big time-saver. Right after you finish a recording, tap Undo and Homecrate will:
- Move the take’s audio file to the project’s quarantine (trash) folder — it’s not gone, just set aside
- Delete the recorded clip from the timeline
- Move the playhead back to the start of that take
So the moment you don’t like a take, one tap clears it and puts you right back at the top, ready to record again — no long-press, open, delete, and re-position. Tap Redo to bring the take back if you change your mind (it’s restored straight from quarantine).
MIDI takes work the same way for the timeline and playhead — the just-recorded MIDI clip is removed and the playhead jumps to its start for a quick redo. (MIDI is note data, so there’s no file to quarantine.)
The Undo Limit
By default Homecrate remembers your last 5 actions. You can change this in ⋯ menu → Settings → General → Undo/Redo actions — choose 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, or 20. A higher limit lets you step back further at the cost of a little more memory.
What Undo Doesn’t Cover
- Adding or removing tracks is not part of undo history.
- Mixer moves (volume, pan, mute) aren’t undoable — they’re live performance controls.
- In a collaborative session, structural changes are authored by the host; a member’s undo of a synced change may be re-applied by the next sync.
Emptying Quarantine
Undone recordings and deleted clips live in the project’s trash so Redo can restore them. To reclaim the space, use ⋯ menu → Settings → General → Clean Trash Now, or leave Auto Cleanup on Close on so trash is emptied when you close the project. Once trash is cleaned, those takes can no longer be recovered.
